Mannheim National Theater

Germany's oldest municipal theater, founded in 1779 and the venue of Schiller's Die Räuber premiere, now home to opera, drama, dance and youth productions.

Founded in 1779, the Nationaltheater Mannheim is the oldest municipal multi-genre theater in Germany. Friedrich Schiller's play Die Räuber (The Robbers) was premiered here in 1782. The present house on Goetheplatz brings opera, drama, dance and the Junges Nationaltheater youth stage under one roof. A major renovation project is rebuilding the venue from the ground up through 2026.
